What it takes

A career in modelling can offer fantastic opportunities to travel the world, meet diverse & interesting people and generate a good income. But before starting out, it's important to be aware that today modelling is a highly competitive industry where, however good your look, success can only be achieved with certain vital ingredients: dedication, a professional approach, a good agent and a bit of luck. Models must work hard to look their best - a healthy diet, regular exercise and general TLC are all essential. What you wear is also important. But looking great is only half the job. Being professional is a must. This means turning up on time, having a positive attitude and generally getting along with everyone at the casting or on the shoot. If you can do all this, your chances of a good career will increase enormously. Remember that competition for work is fierce and standards today are higher than ever. If all this seems daunting, don't forget that the agency is here to give advice and guidance on all aspects of our models' careers, including healthy eating, personal care, health & safety & managing your finances.

Be safe

Parental consent is required for anyone under the age of 18 to start a career as a model. It is also important that school studies are not disrupted and so communication between home & agency is vital and a young person will only be booked with a parent or guardian’s agreement.

Lots of girls and boys want to get into modelling. Many are being exploited by unscrupulous people posing as bogus model agents. On the false promise of a successful modelling career, girls & boys as young as 15 are tricked into spending thousands of dollars on portfolios of pictures that are useless. We do not want to see professionally taken pictures. Simple snaps are best.

Marina Fairfax Fashion Consultancy offers experienced, professional and caring advice on the correct procedures for getting into modelling, and we can also advise about the possible dangers:

Be vigilant

Beware of people posing as agents in chat rooms, instant messenger programmes or on social networking sites. In the past, unscrupulous people have set up profiles on Facebook and other social networks posing as model scouts. If anyone claims to be from Marina Fairfax Fashion Consultancy but does not give you an email address in the form of: prefix@marinafairfaxfashionconsultancy.com then they are NOT from Marina Fairfax Fashion Consultancy Ltd.

Second – contact us direct

We do NOT work with any third parties (whether they are photographers or agents), who may claim to work on our behalf to create portfolios for your benefit, as an introduction to Marina Fairfax Fashion Consultancy Ltd.

Third – do not pay for any pictures

Do not believe anyone who tells you that you need a professional portfolio to be considered by an agency. Natural shots without make-up are the best guides for us to decide as to your potential. Many people have thrown away hundreds of pounds having useless pictures taken on false promises.
